What your first class
is actually like.
Everyone training here walked in for the first time once. Here's what they were worried about beforehand, and what actually happened.
Come try a class, it's freeNo experience needed. No sparring for beginners. All fitness levels. Gloves provided.
A JAI 101 class. Everyone here walked in for the first time once.
“I'd never done anything like this.”
JAI 101 is a beginners class. Nobody in the room has done it before either, that's the whole point of it.
“I was nervous to begin at first as I have never done anything like this before, but everyone was so friendly and welcoming.”
“The trainers are patient and encouraging. They do a really good job at making sure beginners establish a good foundation. Definitely recommend checking them out, you'll have a lot of fun.”
“I didn't think I was fit enough.”
You go at your own pace. Nobody's watching you and nobody's keeping score.
“Had a blast at my first free trial class. Came in with absolutely no experience and super unfit but felt supported and motivated by the amazing instructors and had a great time!”
“Jai is a fun, friendly and safe training environment that is perfect for beginners or the less 'athletically talented'.”
“I thought I'd get pushed into fighting.”
You won't, and nobody will push you towards it. There's no sparring in JAI 101, ever. You'll hit pads held by a trainer, that's it. If you ever do want to fight, that's a conversation you start, not us.
“I'm a big guy (170kg) so every time I walked into a combat gym I would be pressured to fight. I want to lose my big belly and improve my health and confidence. At JAI I got to learn with other guys in the same boat from the beginning. Yes we were pushed and it was hard work, but never have I been pressured to spar or fight. In fact, the trainers told me if I ever want to fight I have to prove that I'm ready!”
“I didn't know anyone.”
Most people come on their own the first time. You won't be the only one.
“When I attended my first class I had no idea what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised by the positive atmosphere and trainers' great sense of humour. I always leave the gym feeling heaps better than when I entered.”
“I tried the first trial and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in boxing. Plus, it is women friendly. Trainers taught us good basics so it's good for starters as well.”
